L.A.’s Lightning Swords of Death play the kind of black metal that makes you smile despite of yourself. It’s evil, blasphemous, violent and just self-aware enough about all those traits that it never becomes off-puttingly menacing or misanthropic. If you question LSOD’s dedication to having a good time, look no further than the stage name of member Inverted Chris. Tongue, meet cheek.
Check out the exclusive new track “R’lyeh Wuurm” and the title track from Baphometic Chaosivm, the band’s first album since 2010’s The Extra Dimensional Wound. The song’s pounding drums and buzzsaw guitar riffs don’t echo the alienation of the ’90s Norwegians or the Cascadian bleakness of those on the Western seaboard. No, this is celebration rock — celebration of Lovecraftian horror, sure, but celebration nonetheless.
Baphometic Chaosivm is out January 22nd on Metal Blade Records.

I’d never gotten past the name before, but it has “R’lyeh” in the song title, and sounds like Pete Sandoval on Altars of Madness (at least the first minute or so).
Do I sign somewhere?
In blood?
The name had me resistant at first; then I saw them live. Their tour with Midnight last year was phenomenal.
oh good lord. that is just a terribly phony gay photo.
I hated their last record, but this one is actually quite cool!
Celebration rock? Rly?
Pure CHEESE.
I REALLY like this album. I enjoyed both the previous two, but this is definitely a cut-above. Got sort an ‘alternate universe Marduk’ vibe to it at times.
PILLOW FIGHT!
This band is a joke, although the drummers project, ENDLESS BLIZZARD is quite good.
Endless Blizzard is the guitarist’s project. LSOD puts on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. Serious or not, this band crushes. Not everybody can be Watain y’know.
I’ve heard the whole album and it’s insane. If we’re going to start criticizing BM names and press photos, isn’t that pretty much every single BM band? I mean c’mon. If you want to look at pretty pretty boys, go listen to butt rock. This band consistently blows me away, and they are amazing live. Period. And I don’t care what they’re called or what photos they take. (And this review is really fucking shallow)
