Chris Black is quite the metal multi-tasker. He operates his own label, Planet Metal, and is the frontman of Chicago bands Superchrist, High Spirits and of course the ever-so-epic Dawnbringer, whose magnificent new album, Into the Lair of the Sun God, will be making its way to the masses on May 29 via Profound Lore.
A concept album that tells the complicated story of a prideful hero’s quest to murder the sun, Into the Lair of the Sun God is told in nine untitled chapters — and here for you we have Chapter VII, a track that highlights the band’s Asian-inspired retro-progressive style, with a modern heavy metal pummeling for good measure.

Black Is Back.
This and the new Superchrist are fucking stellar.
Last Dawnbringer SMOKED and on this evidence, so will the new one.
They bring the dawn so good. So, so good.
The artwork for this killer album was once again done by Christina Casperson.
Also, Dawnbringer are headlining this year’s installment of Alehorn Of Power on July 14 at Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago with The Skull (featuring Eric Wagner and Jeff Olson of Trouble), Bible Of The Devil, Oblong Box, and Borrowed Time.
have you seen The Skull live yet? I really hope they’re good!
i mostly dislike “traditional metal” but dawnbringer really hits the spot for me.
I’m a sucker for epic, slow fade-outs and this track brings a great one. First Dawnbringer song I’ve actually taken the time to listen to and I like. Shut up, there’s too much music out there.
Definitely check ‘em out. Straightforward on paper, SO MUCH BETTER in execution. It’s unreal how much better these guys do traditional heavy metal than anyone else.
I loved the last one enough to own it on all three formats; the new one took a few listens to sink in but I’m liking it even more than the last.
