. . .
Currently I write Decibel’s demo column, Throw Me a Frickin’ Bone. The one in the August ‘ll issue (Scott Ian cover, buy here) featured 12 demos, all free at Bandcamp. (Xyphos’ has since gone up to $5.) This was a particularly strong batch of demos. One reader here requested that I put up their Bandcamp links, so here they are. I’ve changed the order from the column’s alphabetization to that of a mixtape.
Click on the play symbol to stream the song; click on the “i” to go to the band’s Bandcamp and download the whole demo. The “i” also leads to lyrics for a good number of the songs, a nice bonus.
If you prefer to download these tunes as a mixtape, I’ve made that available at the bottom of this page. Hopefully you’ll find a new favorite band or two.

Pallbearer!
Yes! The singer contributed some vocals on one of the songs on Loss’ Despond. Both that and the Pallbearer demo are phenomenal.
Pallbearer has a dude from Deadbird fyi. And yea, the demo is superb. They offer it free on their site in 320K as well.

And I just heard that Eschaton the other day too. Not great, but has potential. I immediately thought Belphegor when I heard it too.
what does the RIYL mean mentioned in some of the descriptions?
“Recommended if you like” – it’s promotional-sticker-on-album-speak.
Ain’t it pushing it a little too far to have sides listed? The whole oldschool thing is cool but this is pretty useless.
That Pallbearer song.. just wow! Hearing a Billie Holiday cover was an unexpected pleasure. Smart choice of them to replace the third verse with that searing solo (see lyrics here: http://www.phespirit.info/gloomysunday/lyrics_lewis.htm).
Thanks for the link.
I find it weird that i actually know a lot of these bands mostly from forum crawling and facebook friends. Just sending each other’s bands to each other to listen to, that is.
Fuck yea for the shout out to Pallbearer. Their demo is amazing and I can’t wait for more!
Hot Fog sounds pretty good. Kinda of a modern Saxon… with some other elements thrown in.
I had heard of Pallbearer, but I didnt know their singer did the vocals on the best track on the new Loss album- that + free demo = awesome
Shit, maybe Raised by Sharks wouldn’t have broken up if we knew somebody might be even a little interested in our music…
Coincidentally I had a problem with my Decibel subscription and still have yet to receive the Scott Ian issue, even though I got the one before and the one after, so I didn’t even know we were mentioned.
When this column shows up in Decibel, I head down to my computer and check out every band. I really dug Pallbearer, Eschaton, and Chronos.
The Pallbearer is really great. But holy dogshit Batman, Dog Shredder and Gladiator are amazing.
Hot Fog should be touring with Christian Mistress!
Dude, thank you so much for this. I’d love for you to do more. High five.
thanks for including us on this! Its rad to be included with such awesome bands.
Arthur you guys sound really rockin. You shouldn’t have broken up. You guys kinda have an etid style but definately different then a lot of what’s going on. Kind of a beathe of fresh air! Post more songs if you have some.
Robbie, if you’d like to check out another track you can find it here
Thanks for the kind words!
