A YouTube clip is up (see above) of Kylesa playing a new song on their current European tour alongside Converge, Gaza, and Kvelertak. I’m guessing it’s from their new album Spiral Shadow, out October 25 on Season of Mist. It’s short and catchy, and the main riff reminds me a little of Nirvana. I talked to Kylesa for a studio update in the current issue of Decibel (#71, Refused cover, order here), and they said that Spiral Shadow is lyrically lighter and musically more colorful than last year’s Static Tensions. This song seems to bear that out.
Kylesa are going on a month-long US tour this fall with High on Fire and Torche. See dates below.

What a fantastic thing to wake up to! I didn’t even know the album had a title. Probably my second most anticipated album at this point (next to Salome). They’ve got a lot to live up to with Static Tensions.
Looking forward to the new album… and the San Francisco show.
Whoa. High on Fire, Torche, and Kylesa are coming to my town. Metal bands never come to my town. Thank you, Metal Gods.
sounds like Kylesa!
I caught the Kylesa/Converge/Gaza/Kvelertak tour in Brighton and in London, and I really enjoyed the mix of bands. It was the third time I had seen Kylesa and they have grown on me each time.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how the predominately hardcore crowd in Brighton really embraced Kylesa with enthusiasm. The room was packed with pierced people feeling the psychedelia…
I look forward to hearing the new stuff from them.
Is the subtitle of this post an EPMD reference?
Not to be a dick but I don’t get it. Kylesa always sounded generic to me. Just run of the mill beardo southern metal. They seem like nice people but not very good musicians and the dual drums are kinda pointless for them. Just my opinion
@warchild79: I have a feeling if you saw them live you wouldn’t feel that there was any redundancy to their dual drummers…
Doesn’t sound terrible, but is definitely a lot more positive than their previous jams. Honestly I’m not digging this, the riff keeps droning on, and it sounds like some early 90’s post/nerd rock tune. Maybe I hear some Pixies in there? I don’t know, I don’t think bands should play the same shit over and over again, but I’m not into this song at all.
diggin’ it
I could care less about Kylsea but I want to see High on Fire on going to see this in Massachusetts.
two words: Laura Pleasants.
I see the dual-drummer gimmick, and I immediately tune out and move on.

I don’t know about Nirvana so much, but that’s definitely a serious Pixies vibe…pretty much a sped up “Where Is My Mind”!
Either way, great band…stoked for the new one.
Nirvana was hugely indebted to the Pixies, so that comparison makes sense.
I hope they’re not getting too “poppy” like Torche…
Tom- seen ‘em a ton. They are that band that ALWAYS opens. In my opinion, they sounded better when I saw ‘em playing crustier/basement metal in ‘04 but now that they are playing clubs alongside bands like High On Fire or Baroness their lack of skill/songwriting really shows.
@Benj Yeah my first thought when the riff kicked in was “Holy Torche!”
this band leaves me vexed
this sounds kinda punky, super basic and boring. reminds me a little bit of in circles by sunny day real estate. i liked static tensions ok, and they are a fun band to see live, but this was one of the most forgettable tunes in their catalog and they looked half asleep in that video. where’s the energy? fail.
I’m glad major keys are getting more use in metal
i’ve enjoyed kylesa in the past, but they’re really starting to lose me. this song is boring as hell and just meanders on. they’re turning into the same thing that torche turned in–an initially awesome band who became poppier and subsequently a tad more boring. i’m not digging this song at all. also, i don’t see the point in having dual drummers do what one good drummer could do.
If Kylesa were the Allman Brothers, and jammed into infinity I could totally understand the dual drummers. I think in Static Tensions it worked really well, although their beginning material is still my favorite. I pray that they’re not going the way of Torche. When Torche lost Juan, Torche was lost.
thanks nice sharing. think i used it in the right way but my result is sth like this:
