Save the date: March 23. Triptykon’s Eparistera Daimones comes out a month from today in the US (one day earlier in Europe). Holy hell, it is MASSIVE. It’s a logical continuation of Celtic Frost’s Monotheist. How does Tom G. Warrior get those TONES? I’ll be listening to this all year. (By the end of the year, I might learn how to spell its title.)
You can hear two songs from it, “Abyss Within My Soul” and “A Thousand Lies,” here. Four extremely unhelpful video teasers are visible here, here, here, and here. You can pre-order the album here.

“LORD, HAVE MERCY UPON ME!”

Man I can not wait to hear this record. FIrst day buyer. Monotheist was my favorite record of 2006.
I have no doubt that Eparistera Daimones is going to rule.
Sooooo excited for this. I can't stop playing those songs on Myspace.
Monotheist was one of the best albums of the last decade and already this album sounds like it could possibly be just as good.
just to add my bit to the excitement-gasm. Monotheist is one of my al time favourite metal albums so to say I have been anticipating this is an understatement. That tone is crushing, like being swallowed by the abyss, surely the secret cant be as simple as Asa suggests?
It is, indeed, a fantastic album. Gonna be on my year-end list for sure. (Because the voting pool was relatively small, with help from one other guy, I managed to get Monotheist onto The Wire's year-end Top 50 in 2006.)
I hear a lot of compression on all frequencies too. If anything I guess the signal is *less* equalized than most metal guitar (in which the middle frequencies usually get a scoop), there's lots of middle space here, also the distortion tone is pretty distinctive. Cab amp combo plays a big part too, I don't think it's the pickup tone knob that's doing this, at least not on its own.
There are videos of Celtic Frost performing songs from Monotheist online if someone really wants to know if the tone knob is set here or there, although this Triptykon material has a bit more 'conservative' metal rhythm guitar tone compared to Monotheist.
I really like the Giger cover to this record.
This sounds great.
I was listening to Monotheist the other day and thinking about how mean sounding Tom G. Warrior's guitar sounded. I'm going to try the rolling down the tone knob trick.
Of COURSE amps, effects and productions play a huge role. I'm just saying to get that thick, groaning sorta inarticulate initial sound, is all. Read a Monotheist-era interview where Tom confirmed the tone roll-off to be a "trick" of his.
Having heard the entire album a few times already, I'm still trying to wrap my head around it and decide how I feel. Love the guitar tones, love the "Monotheist"-style feel to it. But sometimes I feel like it's a little TOO "Monotheist." Like the "Lord, have mercy upon me" makes me think of "Oh God, why have you forsaken me?" from "Ground" and the repeated "I am" beginning lines feel retreaded a bit. I don't know. I like it. Not sure if I love it. Still deciding.
If this album follows in the steps of Monotheist and if the two samples are indicative of the rest of it, we're in for a great release!
The artwork looks amazing, the special packaging looks awesome and it's good to see Tom back at it with a revamped line-up.
On what had otherwise been a clear evening, I started playing the songs on MySpace and it began snowing again outside.
I'd like to see Immortal make THAT happen.
I loved Monotheist, and I'm so glad this group wasn't just big talk on Warrior's part. Loving it.
Rookie here: Which CELTIC FROST album should I start with?
I have none, yet….thanks for any help!
