Profound Lore has two upcoming releases worth checking out. The first is Dimensional Bleedthrough, out November 10 from Krallice. Thanks to a formidable live reputation, the band’s profile has jumped. It often gets tagged as black metal, but evidently it does not really consider itself as such. I’d agree. While its mechanics (blastbeats, tremolo picking, raspy vocals) are black metal, its thrust isn’t. Instead of Satan or misanthropy, it peddles abstraction and counterpoint. Judging from the title track, Dimensional Bleedthrough should be cerebral yet serrated.
Krallice – Dimensional BleedthroughImpetuous Ritual – Ceremonial Disembowelment
I’m especially excited to hear Impetuous Ritual, whose Relentless Execution Of Ceremonial Excrescence (what a title!) comes out in December. (And what a nonsensical band name!) That’s a long ways away, but I am that excited to hear it. The band features two members of Portal, so, naturally, it sounds a lot like Portal. That’s fine by me, as I can’t get enough of Portal (whose Swarth comes out October 20 on Profound Lore). At the end of “Ceremonial Disembowelment,” the guitars get all growly and grumbling. How did they get that sound??? A wah pedal setting? Picking near the bridge of the guitar? Picking at an angle to get a skewed attack? Whatever it is, it’s Morbid Angel dragged into the 21st century, and I’m lovin’ it.

Can't wait for the Krallice the debut was killer. I compare it to Eldrig-Kali.
That is indeed an amazing tone at the the end of the IR track. It sounds like some kind of filtering, perhaps a wah set all the way open. The guitars are really splattered and hard to make out but in the best possible way. Great, creepy songwriting…
Did you listen to Son of the blind-Sullreader, Saros-Acrid Plains,Paroxysmal Descent-Paradigm Of Decay,Panopticon-Collapse : some of the best right now.
The Best of 2009 so far… Nebula: Heavy Psych , Sui Caedere: Threne , Liturgy: Renihilation , Church Of Misery: Hoses Of The Unholy.

Your forgetting some of the best of true funeral doom like all Mories releases Gnaw Their Tongues, All the dread magnificence of perversity ,and Die mutter wahlt das todtenkleidchen and to be bested by De Magia Veterum – Migdal Bavel, I'll take it to the grave with me.
As usual, you put it quite well by separating 'mechanics' and 'thrust'. I have struggled to verbalize our relationship to canonical black metal, since it is the fundamental influence, and yet the end result often ends up quite far off. Kudos.
When I first read this post last month I'm guessing that the name Impetuous Ritual triggered a filter because I didn't even notice it. That name just sounds so generic. But when you put the Profound Lore sampler up, I listened to the track on there and was impressed. I was reminded heavily of Incantation (rather than Morbid Angel). But there's a ton going on here. Now, listening to this track, I'm even more impressed. What a great sound! I think they've embellished on Incantation's sound and come up with something even more evil sounding. December cannot come fast enough.
By the way, Nick McMaster (if that's your real name), the "canonical black metal" influence is evident. It reminds me of what Teitianblood are doing (as well as what Incantation have been doing for nearly two decades now). I get what Cosmo is saying about the thrust. When I first heard Teitianblood, I couldn't find a similarity to Deathspell Omega but I felt like they were similar in the way the message came across. I'm getting the same feeling from your band, but from a completely different sound.
