Metal’s most underrated band, Ludicra, is touring at last. For years, fans have begged the San Francisco group to visit. But work, life, and other band obligations have pinned Ludicra to the West Coast. Guitarist John Cobbett is in Hammers of Misfortune, who accompany Ludicra on this tour. Bassist Ross Sewage has played with Impaled, Ghoul, and Wolves in the Throne Room. Aesop Dekker also keeps time for Agalloch. It’s a shame he’s probably more known for his rarities download blog Cosmic Hearse than his playing. Take, take, take is no way to live. It’s time for people to give Ludicra their due.
I saw a Ludicra show at 924 Gilman St. where the band was like a hair-trigger weapon. Every time Dekker flicked on his blastbeats, the room went body-threateningly berzerk. Things held with one hand became held by none. Ludicra is a band for which you go nuts, then tell your friends. I am telling you, friends. Go see Ludicra. See Cobbett and Cather weave 12-stringed tapestries. See Sewage, the wild-eyed four-stringed dynamo. See demoness howler Shanaman put her male counterparts to shame. Aesop is a fantastic drummer, a hilarious person, and a walking encyclopedia of film and music knowledge. Love Agalloch, love the Hearse…think it's time I checked out Ludicra, indeed..
Now if only they'd come to Seattle.
This band really is the shit. Singer looks badass screaming in a blouse, always enjoy when a woman goes up there in normal getup and blows everyone back a yard. Maybe blows was the wrong word… face-destroys?
Been repping heavily with my Another great love song shirt since I picked it and the record up years ago after reading a favorable review at Aversionline. It is sad that this band is so unsung, they are very much doing their own thing and making a flock of pansies out of most everyone else in the process.
Big ups and good luck to Aesop and the rest of the crew on this endeavor, I sincerely hope they get theirs.
I love every release that Ludicra has…released. Like an idiot I missed their gig in Los Angeles with Giant Squid, Black Elk and Lightning Swords of Death back in '07. Looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.

I will be at the Chicago show. Besides Slough Feg, they're also playing with Bible of the Devil and Superchrist. It's a free show, so there's no reason not to go! I shall be headbanging up front!

ok cosmo, i've been listening to the ludicra tracks you've posted over the last year or so, and others that i got elsewhere, and i really like what i hear, so i am definitely going to the philly show next week. despite the dumb name, the club "johnny brenda's" is a terrific place to see a band, so it should be a badass night if they are as good live as everyone says. i'm quite psyched.
oh man, they were the definite highlight of an all-around great show at Cobra Lounge last night – so glad i got to see them!
After witnessing the Ludicra ritual last night, I could totally say that Laurie Shanaman is black metal's answer to James Brown. Never before I have seen any vocalist bust some metal dance moves onstage.
Saw Ludicra and Hammers Of Misfortune on their only Canadian stop last night. Both bands tore the place apart. Wish more people were there though. It's a thing of beauty to see two of metal's most underrated acts tour and play a show together. Nonetheless, an unforgettable experience.
Anyone know who is headlining and who is opening between H.O.M. and Ludicra? It's a bit unclear from the tour info I've seen.
