I’ve started a list of upcoming metal releases in 2009, beginning with August. (I’ll fill in previous months later.) A few such lists are on the Internet, but none are complete or relevant enough for me, so I made my own. I’ve also put it in the sidebar for your future reference.
What would you like to see covered in August? (See the month’s releases here.) Due to time and taste, we can’t guarantee coverage of anything. But reader input matters, and I’m curious as to what people are excited about. Personally, I’m looking forward to the Asphyx, Burnt by the Sun, and Merrimack records. The Dark Tranquillity demos might be interesting, too.
Please let me know, by email or comment, of any corrections or additions to the list. It is a continual work-in-progress.

pretty much all of the releases that i'm interested in are by bands i already know, therefore i can't think there will be too many surprises musically. still i think iron age has improved since constant struggle, which was freakin good. keelhaul should have a record to make me wonder why more people aren't into that band. the real curiosity, and it may be of the trainwreck variety, is the accused album. i think the asphyx, behemoth, merrimack and municipal waste will be what we think they will be (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
I will definitly be picking up the Dark Tranquillity demos CD. Do you know of anything new on the reissues to make them worth a re-purchase.
I cannot believe no one is talking about Sacrifice's new album, The Ones I Condemn. It will be the best thrash album of the year and one of the best in the last twenty years, since thrash's original golden years. One listen to the track "Hiroshima" and I was sold.
shrinebuilder!
Winds of Plague, of course. Could be entertaining (to read, not to listen to).
ben – Yes, I wonder why I haven't heard more about The Accused record.
Rob – Here is some information about the Dark Tranquillity reissues. Looks like they are literally for completists:

Anxiety – I had no idea Sacrifice had a new record out. Thanks for the heads-up.
Dan – Shrinebuilder has no confirmed release date yet, but for sure I will add it to the list once that happens.
Graeme – I am reluctant to give WoP any more press than I've already given them.
There's only one album on that list which excites me… Heart of Darkness by Burnt By the Sun. I've been looking forward to that one for years now. However, I had lost track of its progress some time ago, so this is great news!. Burnt By the Sun were the first, impressive band I heard after an extended metal hiatus (Goddamn religious upbringing!!!). Of course, since that time I discovered Black, Doom, Drone and Grind, so we'll see if their brand of metal is still to my liking. I have very fond memories of those first two records, so expectations are very high…
I know you know Goreaphobia's back — and you've already previewed their upcoming album. But I saw them with Master in Austin and they killed. Certainly worthy of coverage.
And as much as I love MuniWaste (and Dave Witte is a monster, no doubt about it) I'm not super excited to hear the same song, 12 times over, on yet another album.
And why is Landmine Marathon already getting a reissue?
Van Damned – I believe Landmine Marathon is getting a reissue because (a) their previous label Level Plane has gone on hiatus, and (b) they're recording a new album for Prosthetic. So the reissue makes sense for everyone involved.
As I have yet to check out Municipal Waste (There's too much unexplored classic thrash for me to pay attention to this revival) my only exposure to Dave Witte has been his phenomenal work with Burnt by the Sun. Give them a shot if you haven't yet.
Burnt by the Sun – the sound the term 'Metalcore' should conjure.
I'm definitely interested in reading about your reaction to / thoughts on the Greymachine release. I'm already planning to buy it — I like the tracks I've already heard, and I like them a lot — but I'm curious to see how others will take to it.
By covering, do you mean writing a post about them, or just noting their release date on your list?
totda – I will probably write on Greymachine somewhere – if not here, then somewhere else.
Ben – yes, coverage of a band or album means a post about it.
The new Cable record is coming out on August 18th.
I'd be curious to hear your take on Bloody Panda. I reviewed it for Decibel and found it mesmerizing though I wasn't too sold on their last album or their split with Kayo Dot.
Updated, Etan – thanks for the info. I also added the new Andreas Kisser record as well.
I have not heard or gotten the new Bloody Panda record yet. I would be interested in at least hearing it.
There's some albums you missed. Check this list http://www.metalunderground.com/upcoming_metal_releases/
Ben – thanks for the link. Some of the releases included there but not here (a) don't have confirmed release dates, (b) don't have August release dates, and/or (c) are not metal enough to be relevant. But I have updated this list with otherwise relevant info. Thanks!
